MEDITATIONS

We are collecting meditations on EDA literature for inclusion in a daily meditation book for EDA!

In general, each meditation is a bit like an EDA “pitch.” Interested in helping? Please enter a brief quote from EDA literature (with the reference info) a statement about what things used to be like, a sentence or so about what happened, and a reflection on what it’s like now.

We are attempting to cover as many aspects of recovery as possible in our little reader to keep things fresh. We have had quite a few meditations in some areas, and fewer in others. We would especially welcome meditations on the following topics:
  • Finding humor
  • Weight restoration
  • Finding calm in the midst
  • Finding value in confusion
  • Embracing sexuality/intimacy
  • Using the fellowship
  • Overcoming impediments
  • Something your sponsor told you that helped you through a difficult time
  • Sponsoring others
  • Full recovery
  • Humility

The word limit for meditations is low–just 220 words (including the quote)–so it can fit on a typical “daily reader” size page. Review the sample below as an example.

I fought against feelings most of my life, using my eating disorder to cope with highs and lows. I fought because I was afraid. I thought feelings had all the power, and I was helpless; feelings could destroy me.

Since joining EDA, I’ve developed a new perspective: feelings are only feelings, and they’re temporary. I’ve learned new tools that allow me a full range of emotions. Sometimes I’m uncomfortable, but I can sit with feelings or take appropriate action, using my emotions as an internal compass.

If angry, I can set a boundary or right a wrong—or maybe recognize that I had unreasonable expectations! If afraid, I can mitigate risk or change how I look at life’s opportunities. Pausing and staying present with whatever I’m feeling strengthens my recovery. Now that I am more comfortable with the richness of my emotions, I can help others who were frightened as I once was.

When I sit with my feelings, I get useful information from them, and they pass.
